Mudbug-I noticed that when you gave you machine a little more throttle it moved through that mud and water a lot faster. I was wondering if you could have sat down and just gassed your way through that mud?

It is priced at $8,995. Even the skid plate is optional, no bearing extensions etc., he doesn't really recommend it. The most popular 6x6 is the Frontier 650 (23 hp. Vanguard) it usually goes out the door at around $11,500-$12,000 without tax.

I just installed a set of Argo Frontier 24" tires on my Hoot ETV demo machine, I can't believe the water and land speed. The Rawhide III's were OK, but these tires rock. Because of the Hoot's light weight (675 lbs.) I run them at 1.5 psi.
Bw6-Perhaps you could post up some video of your hoot running through some impossible terrain with those six Argo tires. I would be really curios to see what a Hoot could do with a little more ground clearance. Still I wish the machine would come with a little bigger engine than a 15 horse Kohler.

mightymaxIV ,

I might have , but since I had to crawl all over my roll bar , just about the whole length of that long mud hole , to make it to where I was when I bent down to give it more throttle , I was not taking any chances in the pudding mud I was in . I tried sitting down about 8 foot into that mud hole , and when that did,nt work ,, I locked my throttle down with a plastic bag , at a steady low throttle , and did what ever I could to continue to make forward momentum . The only reason I increased the throttle , was because the plastic bag holding it steady had loosened , so I bent down and increased the throttle with my hand . The only reason increasing the throttle worked then , was because the consistancy of the mud had changed at the end of the mud hole .

Mud Hole

Mudbug3,

We don't have mud holes like that up here, but have plenty of loon crap, swamp, muskeg, floating muskeg, rock, bog. and bush so thick you can hardly walk through it. Most of our riding is basically picking a compass course to some isolated lake or other destination and trying to get there. We basically try to conquer whatever is in our way. We don't travel on trails, we make our own.

But if I ever get down your way I would like to try a good ole mud hole like that! I must say you guys are persistent, and I love the technique.

I just came back from a day's ride up north and wanted to say that the Hoot with those 24" Frontier tires was fantastic, what a difference a good tire and full time 6 wheel drive makes. The other guys had a Frontier and an Avenger. Both the Avenger and the Frontier ripped the sidewall out of a tire, but we basically travelled the same terrain. Only used a half bottle of Muskol, but all in all a great day!

Bw6 ,

That was just an example of what we rode through that day , and this is by no means a comparrison of where we like to take our amphibs when we ride . That video was taken at a well maintained ATV park , and most of the trails are wide enough that another ATV can come help you get back , if you ever happen to break down . If you are stuck REALLY bad the owner of the park will bring his tractor to pull you out . A lot of the trails there are wide enough for the water truck , to spray water and keep down the dust . That long mud hole was near the entrance of the park , and if that was the extent of what I had to ride in on a regular basis ,, I,d sell my amphib and buy a good ATV . This video is a poor example of where we have taken our amphibs , when we go riding .

That,s the very stuff that my amphibious friends and I want to see the Hoot go through , not the really easy stuff thats posted on Utube . Bw6 , could you post some good pictures of the Hoot with Frontier tires on it ? I,d like to see how much clearance is left between the tires and between the top of the tub. In all honesty , was there any place that the Hoot could " continue to go ", but the Argo,s could not , because of the Hoot,s lower psi on the ground ?

New Hoot ETV Videos (Extreme Series) Part 1

Mudbug,

I know you were asking a while back to see the Hoot ETV in more challenging off-road video's, well the fellows in Norther Ontario, Canada have given me about 60 minutes. It is unedited, and shows a comparison of the Hoot vs. a few different Argo models, including the Frontier.

Because of the course language Mike (rightly so) has not allowed it on the site, so if you want to view them please search YouTube for "Hoot ETV Extreme", you can watch them full screeen, in high quality.

They start off rather tame, but as you progress through the series the terrain gets more extreme. I will upload one/week, enjoy.

If the Hoot could make it through a long mud hole like this ,,I,d be VERY impressed ! Both of us eventually made it to the end of this long mud hole ,,but not with out some SERIOUS effort !

Ok for me this is where I would give a quad with lift and big tyres the advantage. It appears to me the mud is floating you and your not getting down to solid ground for decent traction and the mud has too much suction as the body is a large surface area that causes drag...

That is a good point, but I watched another video of those guys going through some serious mud, and then comes along a huge lifted up quad on some giagantic mud tires that had to be 29 or 30 inches tall at least. You see the 6x6 make it through previously and then this monster quad starts going through it, but doesn't make it. He was rocking the quad from side to side, but then the pudding mud just sucks him right down in sideways and at the end of the video the guy bails off and it looks like every goes to help him and bring the quad upright.
