Conquest axles - are they different?

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can help me,

Can anyone tell me if the Argo conquest front/rear Axles change at all over the different years?

I was of the understanding that they are all the same for the conquests?

can anyone shed some light on this?

I am having trouble ordering a new one as my machine doesn't have a VIN number or anything.

    any info appreciated...

    cheers,
    Mitch.

As far as I know they are all the same. I have conquests from the '80's'90's, and a 2004. All the same.
But if it was me, I would start putting in HDI Axles as the originals wear out, break, or bend.

There is a slight difference between corner axles and Center axles.
The amount of paint on the shaft. More paint for Center axles, as they stick out of the outer bearing further than the corner axles with bearing extensions.

thanks for the help RD, I figured as much.

I just went back to every Conquest parts manual and checked every one, and exact same part number is for every model for the front axle 810-73.

Now I can ring the supplier back and tell them I was right.

Are the HD axles a straight swap with the standard bearing housings?

The new axles are direct fit, believe they have since superceded the 810-73 axle.

yes they have - and there is no old stock in Australia of the old axle anyway.

new HD axles are $145.55 AUD.
and new rims are $59.99 AUD.

compared to $88 and $40 in the US.

shipping is the killer though... and that's what the AUS retailers bank on...

The HD axles are the same as the conquest as far as length, diameter and sprocket set screw location. The only difference is the flange is greatly improved over the old 2part stamped flanges. I payed just under 90$ for mine plus the governments share.

That sounds normal. Whenever I go for parts, the dealer asks me what yr my Conquest is, and depending on what parts I need, I always say "Doesn't matter, they're all the same". Dealer responce is always the same.... "No they are not" (with a questioning look). I just play dumb, and say "OH? Lets look it up shall we?"
Of course I know there are some different parts. I love going in and asking for HDI Parts for my Conquest.... That really confuses them:
ME: I need some HDI Outer Bearings
DEALER: What year is your HDI
ME: Doesn't matter, they are all the same
    DEALER: No they're not
ME: I'm putting them on my Conquest
DEALER: Huh, you can't do that
ME: I'd like to buy some HDI Outer Bearings please
DEALER: Those don't fit a Conquest
    ME: They fit mine
DEALER Which ones fit your Conquest
    ME: HDI Outer Bearings
    DEALER: Which HDI Outer Bearings
ME: The only HDI Outer Bearings
DEALER: The early HDI's had different Outer Bearings (Sounding Very Fruserated)
ME: The Early HDI's were not HDI's, they were Avengers
    DEALER: That's the same thing
ME: NO, They're not, they have different Bearings
DEALER: So, what do you want?
ME: HDI Outer Bearings (At this point I usually have to pull one of my spare HDI Outers from my pocket and place it on the counter)
ME: I need some of these, please
DEALER: Those don't fit in a Conquest
And around we go again, lol. Next time I go in I think I'll ask for an HDI Center Axle to replace the front right axle on my Conquest, lol.

Most dealers are pretty good and a pleasure to deal with, others...... are fun to play with sometimes. Of course I could just go in and ask for Outer Axle Bearings for a 2010 HDI, and leave it at that, but where's the fun in it?

This was just perfect, and I understand the frustration. Throughout the process of building or repairing a machine, I invariabley have to go to NAPA. My favorite thing is asking for the alternators I put on the Kubota engines.

ME: I need a GM one-wire alternator; something in the neighborhood of 60-80 amps output.
    NAPA: What's it for?
    ME: It's for something custom.
NAPA: Well, I need to know a part number to look it up in the system.
ME <mulling it over in my head...> How about an alternator for a 1978 GMC 1500 pickup?
    NAPA: What engine?
    ME: ARRRGH!

I've learned to walk in with the part, or a part number. When you say 1978 Royco Super Swamp Fox, or 1969 Challenger Newt the Bold, their heads turn around about twice. For the Newt, I'm going to need to remember the Kubota engine information, the T-20 information, and the transfer case specifics to a 1978 Ramcharger should I ever need parts.

    The rest is custom.
