    18 HP opposed twin B&S

Is anyone running an 18 HP B&S opposed twin? If so how is the performance and is it stock or modified? I have a 1979-80 Max IV that I'm considering putting an 18 HP B&S opposed twin, from an old Craftsman garden tractor, in.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I have a 16hp in a 1988 maxIV.......I think it is horribly under powered, but it will go anywhere the other AATV's go. I put that motor in just because I had it.
What are you looking to do with your MaxIV? If you are looking at just utility use and not really any sport riding, I bet you will be happy with it. If you want to get a little wild then probably not so much.

Edit: Remember, you always need to consider the source. I'm the fool who put a 40 horse in a MaxII [IMG][/IMG]

Mike, they get the job done and run fairly reliably, they don't spin up as fast a V engine by design.
If you are pulling it from a tractor check the spec numbers on the engine to see whether is has a decent charging system, some of those 18's had a small amp. charging system but being on a tractor it should be good.
