Hi again, I put the volt meter on the green wire (spade) on the solenoid and the other end of the volt meter on the earthing strap, got the wife to start the engine and it fired up right away!!! so am I right in thinking this is an earth problem?

If I understood what you're describing it now sound as if some Brit has been playing with your wiring. Could be because of the standard parts that are over there compared to here.
To me ,if I understood you, when you ground the small terminal on the solenoid it starts? If so you will need to get a power excited starter relay, the ground(earth) excited starter relays have not been used for sometime over here. Your switch may have also been changed.
Both the switches are Indak switches that ground when shut off, one has a off/run/start set up and the 7 wire has a off/run/accessory,start setup. Generally the 7 wire will have the headlights hooked to the acc. position, the 5 wire will either always have the headlights on or need a separate headlight switch.
The shut down wire will run from the switch to the engine where it connects to a very small stud on the upper side of the engine shroud.
Will check tomorrow, going to change the solenoid too, as its not bolted down, is the green wire positive or a ground? just when I had the volt meter on it ( red clamp on volt meter) and the black clamp on the ground) then turned the key and it started, this fault only just started since raisingthe top.
Hi again, I have taken the side casingof the engine with the pull start on, I cant see any wires? engine kill wire I am looking for, seen in posts that its near the starter and may of came off, any one point me in the right direction please?
Hi Nubs
I dont have that bolt, the t plug (red wire and black) the black was bolted the the skid steer unit and not the engine, i have now bolted it to the engine and still nothing, I noticed that my key switch has now black wire only 2 red ,1 green and a white wire, one spare one but its live all the time, I do have a push in switch that you need to keep pressed that has black wires, after pressing it still the engine runs. I am pulling my hair out now lol
