  • Another Governor Question

Anyone thought about removing the governor from their vanguard engines? Not for 'more power' but to give the driver direct control over the throttle. Seems like an easy mod.

So I am considering removing the governor, limiting the throttle lever to max out at about 3800 or 3900 RPM. I prefer to have direct input into the throttle. Not into a governor which then monkeys the throttle on my behalf.

I have a Vanguard II machine with an 18hp B&S Vanguard motor.

    Thoughts?

I bypass the governor on all my Briggs engines. Pretty easy to do. My max won’t break 3800 rpm full throttle with the drive belt being the only load. 16 horse model. If you text me I’ll send a drawing on how to drill the bell crank and reform throttle rod to leave the throttle cable in stock place. 1-907-388-8582

I have a couple machines with bypassed governors, the best thing is the Vanguard stumble is gone.
