t-20 band question

    t-20 band question

    for the first time i just re-built my t-20 in my max IV. must say, as a newbie, it looked harder than it was as so many of you have posted. having a background in maintenance and auto mechanics, it really was a breeze. now to my question for all you pros out there...... i read on a thread that you can safely machine .030 off of a drum to remove scoring. i am a machinist and luckily have unlimited access to my machine shop. after turning my ring gear drum down .025, and re-installed in my tranny, i find that my lateral has more travel than the other side. ran the machine for a little breakin, then re-adjusted both sides. the side that has the drum that i turned down seems to have more travel in the lateral still. can someone give me some idea as to how long/hours a new set of bands will last before they will need to be replaced. i drive extremely slow and don't push this machine at all. not like some of the videos you guys have posted here. thanks for all answers

    A new set of bands can last for years and years as long as the fluid is kept clean and at the proper level. Did you replace one band in the T20 when you machined the drum down?

    you probably should have cut both sides down the same and replaced the bands

    bands on the right side were new. i replaced the bands on the left, new shifters and all new o-ring / seals

    i think .030" might have been too much. i took .010 off a set last year, but haven't had a chance too try them yet. i did some math on it and figured that the adjuster bolt would have to be run in about 2 turns tighter to make up for the 10 thousandths off the drum. if my math is correct, you will need to be 6 turns tighter and will probably be really close to out of adjustment
