i've always considered a restoration to be putting a machine back to the way it was when it left the factory. a rebuild includes modifications... engine change, change body color... upgrades....

I like the term "resto-mod". They say this when they restore a muscle car, but upgrade/modify it with a modern fuel injected higher horsepower engine, better suspension, and/or modern tires and wheels. It still looks prett much factory, but it has the reliability and performance capabilities at or above the level of a new sports car. That's what I usually do with my 6 wheelers. Put in modern V-twin 4 stroke engines, upgrade the tires, wheels, and other components to modern ones. It still looks pretty much stock, but it performs much better.
