Tires Q: Balloon vs "regular ATV' tires

My Max II has 22 x 11 x 8 Rawhides, so I was wondering why the older AATVs had those big ol' balloon tires & the newer AATVs don't. Can they be refitted? Just curious about advantages or disadvantages.

Balloon tires where made for a easy ride and better floatation. The dont have the traction or the swimming speed of the rawhides. Also they quit making them in the '70's so are hard to find. You can make adapters to switch from the balloons to the normal style but You cant go the other way with the max without changing axles. I mean you cant easily. If you wanted to cut the hubs off and reweld new ones it could be done. I have never heard of anybody going from the rimmed tire to a balloon though.
