The late and great 6X6World member RogerS was the man when it came to hopping up his Argo 8x8. There's some porential for some serious horsepower out of these V-twins. Check out Performance V-Twins

There is a generac dealer in Iowa that lists on ebay. They have a modified generac engine available with up to 44 hp and 60+pds of torque. They go $1900 or so, but have small engines in the 30hp range for about $1500. These engines have the same foot print as your 18hp so its close to being a bolt down and connect type deal. You will need to clarify whether you have a 1" or 1 &1/8 clutch.

The exhisting engine could be hopped up for not a bunch of money, so you do have some options. I know RogerS's Argo had plenty of power and a wicked sound as well.
