disk brakes on attex....is this stock??

i was thinking about buying this 74 superchief.it has 2 disks on t-20 and calipers over the battery. was this stock and were they used for steering or just e brakes like on the hustler.looks pretty easy to join linkages to disengage drive drums and apply disk brakes at same time.

I thought they only came on Chiefs and Thunder Chiefs. I had them in two machines but now just one. They do not aid in steering (unless they are not evenly adjusted ). They stop you very quickly....too quickly if you're not familiar with them. I've heard reports about them being too stressful on the drivetrain but I've never had a problem with them....not after I learned how quickly they stop you.

I agree with George in that the T20 discs only came as stock equipment on the Cheif and Thunderchief. By 1976 when the Superchief went into production, all the Attex machines came with the emergency brakes on the front axles. I think the guy selling the green machine on ebay was confused about the model (it's an ABS machine and to my knowledge all the Superchief models were HDPE).

The big discs stop you on a dime, but are on a common link with the pedal so they always work at the same time.

yeah i thought the guy selling it was wrong about the model but that didnt matter to me since the body was trashed from hitting a pole,i just wanted the drivtrain, was thinkin bout making a tank upper body for it.sold for $1075,too much for me with a cracked upper and lower body.found this on the net, some guy is building a tank from an argo, this isnt a real pic of it but he does have most of the framework done,he also moved engine to the rear.

Yea i was watching that attex and was surprised it went so high. Thats ok because I used that to prove to my wife that mine are really worth the money I keep putting into them, lol. I personally would try to fix the body first. If it dont work out maybe you can find another body or then make the tank. Either way I hope you have fun with it.

I saw that thing on ebay and noticed the starting bid of $800. Since it was painted all wrong and it had the wrong motor I didnt even think anyone would give the $800 starting bid. Perhaps the amphib market is going back up.

    JP-

I couldn't believe it either, and I'm hoping you're right and the market's rising once more. Quote from the ad: "this rolled down my driveway and crashed into a phone pole breaking the nose (see pictures) its an easy fix and I have the panel bond (epoxy)" Did anyyone notice just how broken the nose was? In my humble opinion, this was a body for the pile in the woods. There was lots of good parts on the machine and it was worth the money to someone.
