What's the most cost effective way to bump-up the HP and torque of the carbureted Kohler command series engines without excessively compromising reliability, mandating the use of exotic fuels, or creating a 130 decibel exhaust note?
Is it even doable, or are they at or near their upper limit in stock configuration?
I can't seem to find any info on this topic.
Anyone know of any builders/tuners doing this??
hi , with out saying to much if u have a alternate choice eg vanguard go with that [mainly due to cost ]
As with any modified engine u will at least recondition and then modify ,this is where the cost can go vertical
Go and check out MIDWEST SUPER CUB
new rings at least
send engine block to machine shop for crankshaft bores to be sleeved
heavy duty valve train
after market con rods
advanced timing
improved exhaust
if u have a 23hp [stock 26 mm carb stock] replace with 25hp accelerator pump carb 28mm
after market camshaft
Keep the revs to 5500rpm and below [possibly retain original clutches ]
Keeping the rpm conservative means u will not be putting to much heat into the pistons otherwise u will need forged pistons
inlet manifold IMO are pathetic on kohlers vtwins
Screwed on timing magnet on fly wheel replace with after market unit
