I relocated the coils away from the engine on the super chief I also took 6" flex pipe and have it so when I close the hood it seals around the engine air intake so it pulls fresh cool air from out side. And increased the air cleaner size. I brought the axles in 5" since I'm not going to run the tracks. These mods have increased the speed and cut out on the over heating and hesition.

Sounds like a good idea. I think I'm going to try the flex pipe/cold air intake idea on my green Superchief.

If using 6" corrigated flex pipe cut it oblong so the bottom is a bit longer and split the sides back just a bit for the engine side. Also use a 6"female x 6" male coupling cut your mesh on your air intake on the hood and insert the male end of the coupling into it. On the engine side leave the longest piece on the bottom with this and the 2 splits it should close around the shroud when you close the hood .Between doing this and relocating the coils you can drive the **** out of it without getting to hot. In Indiana anyway can't speak for desert use
