    What Do I Have?

    image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I have recently purchased an old 6x6 ATV in the hopes of resoting it for my kids. The guy I bought it from believes it is a 1965 Amphicat althought I'm not sure that it is as it doesn't meet many of the specifications for that brand. The machine is made entirely of steel and has 1 1/4" axle shafts, 22/11-8 tires and a 440 Rotax fan cooled motor. Please take a look at the photos I've posted and if anyone recognizes the machine please feel free to reply!! I want to be 100% sure of the make and model before we begin demo and restoration. I'm looking forward to hearing any advice and getting into rebuilding it!

    Thanks!

Congrats on the purchase! Not quite sure what make/model that is. Maybe an old Argo?

Yeah, I love to play "name that 6-wheeler," but I am at a loss here. It almost looks to me that someone made a steel body to but an Argo frame in. I really don't know though. Hopefully someone here can at least identify the transmission.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

I have actually been able to match the numbers of the trans up to be a VW, which has high low and rev. The motor also runs twin exhaust which is run out left and right side, and is vented and cooled through the body on each side of the hood. The body really does look to be a factory finish, metal work wise, even though it has add on's and has been painted. The fuel tank is located under the seat. The hand controls have definitely been made up. Hopefully a little more info found can help. Thanks.

What is the size of this machine, kinda looks like a hydrotrax but they were glass. Where are you located,Canada?

Yes I am located in Saskatchewan, Canada. I have contacted Argo Canada, and was able to contact some of the original people from as early as 1960's. They know that it is not a Argo, but do believe it to possibly be one of the original Amphicat 6x6 made by Ron Behoo.

    Oldest 6x6 ??

I have found a old post ( oldest 6x6 ) I found that Mike, the administrator, put up a post about Amphicat. This is his post,

1957 was the date when the creator of Amphicat, Ron Behoo quit his job and started his own maintenance engineering business. In his "spare time" while operating that business he created the Amphicat originally known as the Aquacat. Look at the second article in the Amphicat brochures section. That article does credit Amphicat as being the first ATV but there is no date associated with it.

I found that it is pretty much impossible to find Amphicat (Behoo) from the 1957 - 1965 era, before it was sold to Mobility Unlimited inc. I can find a lot of info on the Amphicat, pictures, brochures, videos, but only the models built from the late 60's and on, where it was owned by Mobility Unlimited.
Does anyone have any information or pictures from the Ron Behoo Amphicat era?

Its NOT an Amphicat, I'm thinking MAX or ARGO prototype. And its NOT 60's it would be late 70's or early 80's. That body style is not 60's.

It's certainly not a Max prototype, but I do see some Argo components.........or it could be something that someone cobbed up. That tends to happen way too often with these vintage machines.

I'm stumped but honestly I need some better photos please.
I'm with the rest of you on the way the back is set out like a Argocat.
Have you tried looking for any of the date plates it should have on the frame or body?
