I'm sorry Mike I meant an cheaper or less expensive part. I have a mower shop nearby the filters are a little pricey considering the price of one for a car don't you think?

I am installing a set of 4" Truck type LED Dual filament lamps on ours to have better lighting and less Amp draw on the whole system. I am considering an electronic 4-way flasher unit for safety as well.
I think you are spending your money in the wrong places. That $4 filter at walmart is junk. I would invest in protecting my motor more than protecting my battery. Those led lights were probably expensive. I like saving money just like everybody else, but a good expensive part will pay for itself by doing a better job than a bad cheap part. I have been burnt with cheap parts before. Remember you get what you pay for.
I wouldn't run the cheapest filter, but I don't buy the briggs oil filters, either. Briggs doesn't make filters as far as I know, they have their name painted on them. You can get educated on filter manufacturers, testing and comparisons, materials, and design, on the internet. A good filter has quality filter media and materials in the bypass and anti drainback valve. Another thing I always check is the threads. I always wipe them out good, have found metal shavings and grit in there. I turn them upside down and blow them out with compressed air. That's the output side of the filter, any trash in there goes straight into the engine.
To Invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. (Thomas Edison)
I was in Home Cheapo the other day,,found a Briggs oil filter in there for the Vangaurd,,dont recall the $,,also had airfilters,,but I was not looking for them.
