Coils and HT leads [plug leads ] can track voltage also. Spark can escape down a little piece of dirt . This can be seen at night time . Remember that some coils do break down under load .This can be at idle /slightly thru out rev range /just at high rpm .
Also blown head gaskets do not always effect the cooling system .
