    New Member- Clutch Questions.

    Hello Everyone, I just came into possession of a Hustler 6x6. Not sure of the year or model, it has a 436cc Air Cool Koehler Engine. Maybe a 950? It was in pretty rough shape, missing a lot of parts, including gas tank and air intake. After cleaning and sorting stuff out for a week I got in running and fixed a few internal issues with the T-20. The only thing left in the tub is the frame and chains.

    My question is on the primary clutch. When I rev the motor up and engage the clutch it wont return back to open. I have taken it apart and tried cleaning it the best I can and I don't know if it supposed to stay engaged at all times? It doesn't make sense to me that it would close but then not open back up. The springs and rollers are all functioning but once they slip over the slight bend and go down to the straight piece they wont return without some persuasion from a mallet. Any help on the primary clutch would be much appreciated. I have really enjoyed looking through all the posts and pictures.

    HI
    Sounds like u maybe operating the the clutch with no belt installed .If this is the case the primary just needs the belt installed and the pulled on . Others maybe familiar with your specific set up .
    FYI Remember that clutching operation is an Engineered SYSTEM. Typically involves matching primary and secondary clutches .This includes the center -center distance [drive vs driven ] must correspond to the belt being used . This just sets u up for operation . Then next there is tuning .
