Changing to a 1 wire alternator on my Swamp Fox....is a fusible link needed?

Current alternator crapped out on me and my neighbor has a good used 1 wire unit. Should a fusible link be wired in or no? Neighbor said no (he is 20 times the mechanic than I am) but I'd feel better asking here just to be sure.

I agree with the neighbor, no need to re-engineer something that has already been thought out by engineers.
