I’m new to the 6X6 world, having just purchased an 04 Argo Bigfoot (wanted one of these
All my life). It has the G-low speed transmission, and has a terrible whine- mostly in
High range. It sounds like a rear differential in a car with a whine primarily on the
“Coast” side of the gear. I went through the transmission and found no problems at all
Inside. Replaced bearings and seals and fluid change. My question is, has anyone tried
Different fluid or additives to correct this noise, or am I possibly looking at the wrong
Component for the noise. Also replaced all outer axle bearings and seals, and lubed chains and sprockets. Thanks for any information anyone might have.
Most of the type one transmissions are rather noisy. Some much more than others. The noise is from straight cut gears not helical. I’ve had customers use synthetic lubes ect. Haven’t had much luck with getting any quieter.
I have read that too about the straight cut gears. If it wasn’t such $&@! To get trans apart
I wouldn’t mind going back in and seeing if I could do something about it, but I think I’ll try a higher viscosity fluid and just see what that does. Thanks again.
