Allis chalmers terra tiger front jackshaft intallion issue

Purchased an allis chalmers terra tiger recently and doing a minor restoration to freshen it up. Purchased it with the front jackshft that was removed but came with the terra tiger. Replaced the outer bearings and trying to reinstall unit into the body. Not sure why, but when i tightened the flanged inner to outer bearing retainers they do not hold the bearing tight in place and the entire jackshaft assembly is still loose. As far as i can tell i am assembling the jackshaft correctly, as i have a parts manual to reference assembly. Any help is appreciated, john

If your flanges are used they may have had a bearing fail in them before. Just a little wear leaves the bearing loose. Assembled by hand new flanges usually won’t quite touch each other. The other thing I’ve seen in other machines is people assemble with frame between flanges and they are real loose. Good luck with your project.
