    I guess the purpose of the split rings is to align the header pipes. Whatever makes the smoothest transition from port to the pipe diameter you are using would decide if I used the rings. My tubing was same dia. as the exhaust port with the rings removed, so I left them out.

    Whipper's 23 hp head ports are bigger than ours.

    Nice job on the exhaust system. A word of caution here. Most times when you open up an exhaust system you may have to re-jet your carb. Since the engine breathes better it may be too lean now in wide open throttle or heavy loads. Keep a close eye on the spark plugs and check what they look like after a hard run. If your hear any detonation shut the engine off as quick as possible to avoid piston damage. Reading the spark plug coloration is the best way to tell if your lean. Just my 2 cents worth.
