    newbie needs some more help

Im looking at buying a 16hp vanguard that came off a generator the guy says it has a 1'' shaft ,stator and electric start only, would that be an easy swap for a old hustler that had a 440 kohler in it ? I know I would have to make an exhaust set up but would everything else be fairly simple ?would a stator be a sufficent charging system ?

    shaft size

You should pull off the clutch and measure the shaft size on your engine. You also must consider the shaft length. My hustler has a 1" x 3" shaft, but I have the four stroke kohler engine, I cannot guarantee that they are the same as the two strokes. Just don't forget to check the shaft length, as it is also very important.

From my experience with these engines, I have seen that most of the Vanguard engines used on generator applications have a tapered shaft, not a keyed shaft, which 4 stroke clutches require. Like it was brought up before, check it out before you buy it. Good luck.
