OK I figured out what I'm gonna do for a cage. I'm gonna put up my top, and use it for measurments. I'll build it to fit inplace of the crappy bimany top rails. Just add a few more buttom snaps around the edges to keep it in place, and kill 2 birds with one stone! That will leave me with the ability to throw the top up quickly, and possibly fab out a hard top in the future! I'm going to use angle around the body line, as a bumper and secure mounting point for the cage. I'm looking at using 1"x.120" square tube. I'll do a double tube across as a header bar. That should make things verry sturdy! I have also been thinking about using 1"x.25"ID tubing for about 3" at the bottom of the tubes, use a few pin's & R-clips, and I will be able to remove the cage for the summer fishing trips.
The bumper is in blue, the cage is in green, and the red thing will be a tie down loop for trailering. You can see I'm planning on putting 1/4" gussets in every joint, and what you can't see is the top of the cage will be an X-bar for added ridgitity & protection!
What does everyone think?

Sounds like a plan to me! I think making it removable for fishing is a good idea. If you do fish a lot the cage really gets in the way. I take the Max IV out fishing sometimes and I'm always having to stand up or reach way out to clear the bars when I cast.
It's cage is removable with just a few bolts but I never take the time to take it off. If I fished a lot I would probably remove it.
I was curious what size tube everyone is using for a cage? I'm at home building one for a Jeep, but this is new to me!
What's been done for restraints, other than hold on for dear life! I have an old set of racing 3" lap belts, but not sure where to anchor them. I debated using a set of 1/2" carrige bolts from the outside of the tub, and just use fender washers, or be safe & run them to the frame?
