  • Early Borg Warner + drain plug removal

Has anyone ever seen an old T-20 that had the drain plug with the big + shapped head, kind of like a big phillips screw? If so, does anyone know what tool can be used to remove it to drain and fill the transmission? Thanks.

I use a big phillips screw driver. Seriously. Either that, or if the threads are exposed enough, you can use a set of channel locks/vise grips to grab it and unscrew it. This is a ghetto way, and you might damage the very top of the threads. This never mattered on my machine since the plug never screwed in enough to engage those threads anyway. A big phillips screw drive will work, though.

You can also use an impact driver with the largest common screwdriver head you can find. I've had to do that on one occasion when nothing else would work.

I've used the claw end of my crowbar to get it loose then finished the job with a screwdiver.
