American Made 4.5 Angle grinder

Wanted New or like New condition: American made 4.5 angle grinder any American made brand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone out there got one?

Lewis. I think you may be SOL on this one. I don't know of any that are made in the states anymore. A couple of years ago I was in need of a new cordless drill so I bought the best and most expensive Milwaukee ($300.00) and when I got it home and opened it up the drill had made in China on it.

If you happen to find a used grinder that was made in the states that is ten years or older you might not be able to get replacement parts for it.
That happened to me with a industrial duty Black & Decker 4.5 inch angle grinder that needed new armature brushes and I was SOL.

Thanks Mark, i refuse to pay 109$ for China made. If it was American made i would have no problem with the cost. Now they all are coming off the same line in China. Guess i will have to get the old trust 1950(Year) model out of my grandfathers.

A little story about angle grinders. I received on for Christmas from a family member about 6 or 7 years ago and while i was working on my Attex in the buffing stage i though what the heck it is still in the box and never has been used. Installed the buffing pad and hit the switch.....grinder rotated at about 5 rpms........turned it off thought it was in a bind maybe????? checked it, it was completely free. Turned the switch back on and my shop lights went out!!! Thought this must be a fluke!... reset breaker and turned switch back on,... lights out again. Unplugged it cut the cord off removed the side handle and buffing pad. Grinder went to trash, kept handle it was nice, only thing that worked on the grinder. Same thing happened years ago when my wife bought me a bench grinder(Buffalo), and it is not my breakers.

The only reason i did not get rid of the grinder in the first place was i received it for Christmas as a gift, but i asked them not to get me anymore Chinese tools. All the overseas tools that i have are from gifts and as much as i hate them i will not throw away a gift. I think there is a rule about that somewhere. If i want to really work on something i use my Craftsman, Snap-on, etc.

Why am I mentioning a harbor freight grinder to you, Lewis

Under $20 when on sale.. won't hold up to daily continious use, unless you get the exchange warranty.

Plenty of quality tools in Australia.Not Australian made as much any more but German,Japanese and American are readily available.Try a dedicated tool shop maybe.Milwaukee is available here and are very good tools,still U.S.made printed on it with a picture of your flag.The Jap power tools rule here at the moment.about 100-200$.I use Hitachi's 4.5 angle grinder.700watt you won't stall it.Brushes last 5-7 years,but I'm not kind on my tools,there here to work not admire.Keep looking,I can't imagine your Marines fixing Abraham's tanks with "Wing Chee" somehow.If your tool store can't help ask him when he become a toy shop.You may need to buy on the net.

What about a Snap-on angle grinder? Are Snap-ons made in China to, or do they not make angle grinders this size? I know Snap-on is good stuff, I know a feller that has a shop full of snap-on tools. We usually use Milwaukee or DeWalt power tools, and we have some in our shop that have lasted for years. We have a Milwaukee angle grinder that has been through HUNDREDS of grinder blades and is still going strong. Remember: 90% of the time you get what you pay for.

Thanks guys, i will check out some of these areas. Snap-on is next i just have to see a rep. Your right about the military they don't use Chinese anything. I am not being ugly to the Chinese people, i am mostly disgusted with our companies that have left us high and dry and want big bucks for china made. I do not mind paying good money for a quality tool. I have a few more avenues to check now guys. Thanks again for all the help. I'll keep all updated with what i find.

for about 4 years now I've been using an angle grinder I got at northern tool for $10. the brand is wel-bilt and I'm sure it's chinese but it has worked perfectly for those 4 years and I've gone through probably 50-75 disks. it's 4" though. we have a DeWalt grinder that's I think 4.5 or 5" and it wont turn on at all. I don't know how long we've had it but I got the wel-bilt one when the DeWalt stopped working.

Got the last American made model angle grinder that was made.
Model #6148-6 the 6148-30 replaced it and is now in China. There are No mare angle grinders made in the USA period. I have check every one of them and this was the last. I found it in Florida and had it shipped here.

John i know you are young and do not understand why this is important to me, but one day it will become quiet clear. Now if you buy a brand name anything it will probably come off the same line as the cheap ones. How much is a name worth now, Milwaukee, Bosch, Hilti, Dewalt all are made in the same place and no one HERE has a job building them .... but they want YOU to buy them.
