    8x8 Scout

    i have been considering purchasing an 8x8 Argo scout. I am trying to decide if it will be reliable or not? I know there are several upgraded models that seem to have better components? Just trying to justify the price because I will only needs it 3 months out of the year. Any insight would be great. The Argo website doesn't really tell you much.

    My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

    I thought the avenger models had better axles, better drive train?

    Yes you are correct the axles are 1/8" larger diameter and some drivetrain components are machined to fit those axles though components are actually similar, sprocket count/size are the same.
    Frames are near identical, transmission options, brake components etc. other than the LX are the same, lower bodies are same. Biggest difference (besides the axle components) are water cooled engines and a slightly different upper body ( clearance for water cooled). There are other little differences, though as far as the reliability you mentioned I don't believe so.

    Duck hunting and Hog hunting. We hunt on a large farm and when its muddy it takes hours to clean up a wheeler from the mud that cakes up on everything. When it first rains the mud is not bad but once its starts to dry it just gums up on everything, sticks to shoes etc. Trying to find something to get around the fields with out sinking in mud or the tires just gumming up and spinning. I just cant decide if it will do any better than a ranger or atv.

    I don't want to have a 18-20k machine that is high maintenance either...

    Should suit you well after you've had some time behind the controls, a decent amount of people discredit them after a short drive. They do require a little more maintenance than an atv or side by side, but I think the extra work is well worth staying dry, and having superb off road capabilities.
    What state are you in? I'm in Texas, and the mud in my area cakes to tire tread. Slowed my quad down, and once caused my dirt bike to shear its key. Have no trouble navigating through mud, marsh and the creek bed with my 6x6.

    All the argos are very reliable,especially with the kohler efi motors,and super simple drive train, with easy access to same. Maintenance is simple and easy, greaseing the external bearings, chain lube, and oil change, in a nutshell.External bearings are accessed thru a hole in the wheel,making it no problem.
    The avenger ST with the admiral tranny is head and shoulders above the frontier,bigger 25" tires, liquid cooled 30hp, HD axles,bearings, and the admiral give the unit "power steering" Any unit, however, is still going to stuggle in mud without the right track system, as we do a lot of field testing at Jacksonville Texas at Mud Nationals in the gumbo mud.

    got to agree with what garrett said. When I first got mine I had been told how impressive these things are in the bog by people I work with and then I went about 10 feet into the first bog and had to get the winch out, thing is tho, it was all operator error. Argos are can be very counter intuitive if your used to quads, which is what I grew up on. When you start spinning out for example it's best to get off the throttle and let her slowly crawl along through the soup. Never gone anywhere before grinning from ear to ear at a blistering 5km/h lol but aint no one gonna follow me unless they got an aatv too!
