Has anyone tried to build a set of Amphicat soft tracks?

I would like to build a set of soft tracks for my Amphicat. I was thinking of using side chain with cross chain hooks and 4 inch rubber. Here are some links to some the material I am looking at.

    Side chain:

    Hooks:

    Rubber cross pieces:

    Textured Conveyor:

All that is needed is a way to connect the cross prices to the lobe of the hook. Big rivet? Do you think 3/16 inch chain is strong enough?
Do you think the conveyor belt is better than 3/8 inch rubber for the cross pieces?

I am building them for ice and snow. All your feedback is welcomed.
