I got busy! Got another one of my cars to the house from across the state as well as my utility trailer that I'll use to move the MAX around.
My current issue is, I got the transmission together...
I've been cheated! =P
(we actually met on a Mediterranean cruise, but I tell people catalog or space station regularly, lol)
I believe the machinist said between .010" and .015". I gave him direction to cut down until the bevel on the edge is gone if necessary, but no further. If it didn't clean up by then I'd take it as...
I like it! I'll have to get my Russian wife to translate some of that for me. Needs a good automotive 3 or 4 cylinder under the hood, with a decent automatic transmission (powerglide or TH400 for...
FINALLY got the drum machined. Had a few shops flat decline to do it and one say 10 weeks before they could get to it before I found one that said one to two weeks. It's just about back together...
2014 1/2 ton Silverado 4x4. Trying to convince my step-Dad to sell me his 2015 3/4 ton diesel Silverado 4x4. He got a good deal on it and really doesn't use it since retiring.
I've assembled half the transmission, but will be taking it back apart to put new bands in. Decided to replace the band that was all twisted up and damaged... Then looked at it some more and one of...
The sorta nice thing about using an open carrier differential and braking is when brakes are applied to one side the other side receives all the power scrubbed off the braked side, or double what it...
Taking a page from sand rails, has anyone ever looked at finding a small transmission (one gear and reverse?) and use an open-carrier differential on one of the axles and chains to the others, then...
Another point on where some R&D time and money can go. A grease manifold for single point greasing, a place to put a accessory drain pan(or funnel and pan) to remove fluids, heck even durable labels...
I've wanted a 6x6 since I first saw one several years ago, but several folks around where I lived were pretty sure I'd hate it. "They're slow", "They're bumpy", etc. So I've held off until one...
The good drum(left) arrived today. I still have to see about getting the other one surfaced smooth.

Jokes on you, it'll probably never blow unless you run it out of oil!
Meh, as long as that's not cylinder wall plating de-laminating (not sure if they plate cylinder walls in these engines?) it'll be fine to run IMO. Especially if it wasn't smoking or down on power...
While cleaning it up I started to really not like the look of one of the drums (bottom right one in the picture) so thought before I attempt a re-use I'd check e-bay and as luck would have it there...
I'm new to 6x6's, but this is on the MAX II I picked up, which I think is an early 80's model.

Got a 9-tooth collar, 9-tooth carrier plate and a gasket/seal/thrust washer set in so now I have to find some time to change out the seals and get it back together.
I see now why it was an 18-tooth collar with half the teeth ground off, it seems the carrier plate is set up for 18-teeth! I was just out there looking at it, not intending on doing anything an that...
x2!
