I had a winch cable bind up on itself so bad that I couldn’t move it. Right during plowing season too.
Had to trailer it to a shop to have them replace the winch. I got the old winch back and gave it away and I swapped the steel cable for a synthetic cable and never had the binding problem again.
Is the cable on yours steel or synthetic?

That's good advice. I use a synthetic cable, and not only does it not bind up, but you don't need gloves to handle the cable.

Hi Steve! Yes but I forgot to say it was on a Polaris 4 wheeler, not my Argo!
I Have yet to use the winch on my Argo so the steel cable is still new!
I should put a synthetic one on but it’s for sale and new so what would be the point...
Still shredding the fields and woods up with juggernaught?

Depending on which solenoid set up you have it could be a failed solenoid. You could test outputs at switch and solenoid, to simply test the winch just reverse the wires there.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Like Jim said if the winch runs one direction you can switch wires at the winch motor. I test run winches with a known good battery and jumper cables. Switching cables on terminals runs winch opposite direction. You need to do this to get a jambed up one free again.
