Tires

Hi everyone,

I just aquired my first 6x6. It is an early attex 72-75 with a twin JLO (not sure what size, can't find a model#). Overall, It is in pretty good shape, but it has been sitting for 20 years and needs to be gone through completely to get it going!!
I am sure I will have lots of questions as I start to restore this machine, so here goes. I need to get new tires and rims, I am going to make my own adapter plates to go to 5 lugs. Should I stick with the Chevron style tire or something like the Goodyear Rawhides. I will be using this for all around use mud, water, fields and dirt roads. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Brad

Since you are getting new rims, I would highly suggest some of the rims that member MattO sells...they are 9" rims and this will give you the option of 25" tires, provided they will fit on your Attex??? If they will fit (someone here will know), the 25" tall tires ride a whole lot better than 22"...

Oh...well it was worth a try....BTW, I have some 22" Kenda Bearclaws on 8" rims I would let go cheap, but they do not swim.......

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

rdr, I like the Goodyears, do they provide good enough floatation?

Hey Brad,

Your flotation will be determined by the volume of water that the tire displaces...so any two tires that are equal in size, should provide equal flotation.

Goodyear's are an excellent choice..any tire discussion always comes back to the Rawhide...they do everything well. Swim well, ride well, mud well, priced well. You may find a tire that does one thing better than a Rawhide, but not in all areas.

You sold me on them. I am going to order them today!!!

Again, thank you everyone for your opinions and suggestions. I will have a lot of questions during this restoration and everyones prior experience is a huge help!!
