    Years ago, when I worked as a main dealer truck mechanic we used to have to heat up casings etc to fit bushes / bearings. We used to drop the casings in a tub of oil over a gas heater and heat until JUST smoking. This way the heat is evenly distributed and it's difficult to overheat one spot so minimizes distortion.

    This job isn't easy without the equipment. I made a portable boring system for this years ago. Mine sets up on the output bearing bore and a modified center support. I'v also had several cases that were bored several thousandths off center. The new bushings finish a lot better than the old style. great video Whipper.
