T-20 adjustment

I have the older style T-20 with the bars on a pivot pin. When I try to adjust them by the Borg/Warner instrustions, something doesn't seem right. They say to pull the plunger all the way out as far as possible and adjust eyelet bolt for 1-1/4" from face of housing to center of clevis pin. When I do that on the upper and lower bolts, it seem to send the plunger in too far when rocking the bar in and out. They say no more than 1/2'" of plunger going into housing while in one position or the other. I thought of just adjusting it by the 3/16" plunger past the housing for both top and bottom method, but this is the early model T-20. This trans is not in my Max II yet, but I would like to make it a easy setup now and adjust the laterals when I install it later. This is a great board and lots of good people helping out.
