t-20 sun gear question

does anyone rember witch way to install the sun gear on the input shaft? there is a bevel on one end of the gear and i cant rember if it should face the center plate or away? i seem to rember being told one end is hard faced to resist wear. also some units had fiber thrust washers and some had tabed thrust washers i have a mix match of each laying around and some sun gears are beveled and others are strait cut does any one know witch style gear goes with witch style thrust washer?????

ok looking at those photos it looks like the beveled ends face the tabed thrust washers...... the t-20 im messing with now was from my 75 big max it had fiber thrust washers through out even between the sun gears and center plate(most of the newer t-20s have tabbed metal thrust washers and knoched centerplates like in your photos) one of the fiber washers between the sun gear and the center plate dicentergrated and the sun gear wore right into the center plate and i then had 3/4 of an inch end play on the input shaft!!!!!! it got so bad the driven clutch and input shaft (yes the bolt was tight) walked so mutch it was contacting an axle chain !!!!! i have all the parts i need kicking around just gotta figure out witch style i should use i have a spare sun gear here but there are no bevils in it its just cut strait across i wonder if it is an older style part? sounds like im gonna make a trip to ri and play 20 questions (t-20 questions lol)

That's a LOT of wear! I don't know but if I had to guess I would bet that you are right; The straight cut is probably an older design that was later beveled to prevent the edges from wearing on the washer? If you find out for sure post back and let us know.
