Yes, I was torn on what to use for exhaust but after speaking with both 600 racing and R.I. on the effects of this muffler on performance of the motor, I wasn't too concerned.

Initially I had planned on building my own headers (by copying Whipper's design) but I wanted to remove the external muffler from the bottom tub so that I can run 25" tires.

On a Max II this really forces me to use an internal muffler or modify the body to allow for the exhaust to reroute out the top of the body. I really didn't want to do that so an internal muffler it was.

      Pros:
-more room for larger tires now
-no need to modify the upper body
      -protected muffler
      -quiet on the trails

      Cons:
-slight reduction in the performance of the motor
-heat buildup inside the body (requiring the fresh/cool air intake and additional heat shielding)
      -quiet on the trails

I was trying to armchair examine the engine.. figure out what they sell. The 18 muffler bolted up, so it doesn't have 23 heads. Is it a 2 bbl? That would make it a 20 that they started with.. I havn't found any info on what's inside those sealed class engines..

Yeah, they start with the 20hp.

Evil, you just had to bring that up didn't you? Some dummy didn't utilize a catch can and instead decided to plug all three vents/ports on the motor. About 1-2 hours into our night ride and I finally got on the motor for the first time as I did some doughnuts. All of a sudden POW! and then a cloud of smoke. I just knew I had blown the motor.

Luckily jerseybigfoot pointed out that it was merely a rubber cap on the valve cover that had blown from excessive pressure and shot oil all over the exhaust.

The next morning after a stop by the auto parts store evil8x8, Dr. Evil, and jerseybigfoot helped me rig up an elbow, a hose, and a gatorade bottle for a catch can. We even slit some vents in the bottle and covered them with paper towels as a make-shift filter. Fun Fun!

My catch can is more sophisticated than yours.. I have a filter inside my plastic bottle I've seen them made from pvc parts with a drain petcock in the bottom..
