Exhaust Heat Shield

Description: This is the heat shield for the exhaust in my Avenger. I bent the sheet metal and tack welded the sides together. I then painted it and sealed the tack-welded seams with some RTV silicone. This is the bottom and sides of the heat shield and there will be a top that sandwiches the muffler and helps direct heat out of the Argo.

Engine Shroud

Description: After several adjustments to a cardboard template, I finally cut out a heat shroud for the Bandolero motor in my Avenger. The intent is to completely sandwich the muffler inside the engine bay and direct heat out to the stock Avenger side vent.

Description: I am using a stock briggs muffler on the Bandolero motor to help keep it a little quieter than normal. I had to make some overly complicated bends to get the exhaust routed back out to where the stock Avenger exhaust exits the engine compartment.

Description: This is the HDPE fresh air intake that I plastic welded for the Bandolero motor in my Argo Avenger. I slotted the engine mount so that the fresh air intake could be bolted down and adjusted with the motor.

Description: This is the T20 split shifter mocked up in the Avenger. I pinned the shifter so that it could be taken back apart down the road if needed. I plugged the end of the shifter with a solid piece of steel just so it didn't collapse when I bolted everything together.

I'm also going to remake the left hand linkage by making the tubing longer and spacing the shift rod further to the left so that I have greater separation between the right and left shift knobs.

Description: After some practice on some scrap HDPE, I started plastic welding the fresh air intake today. This is the first bead I laid down. I am very happy with the quality of weld from this plastic welder. It was better than I had hoped for.

Description: As I'm going from a liquid cooled motor with a radiator to an air cooled motor, I need to make a fresh air duct to the engine to ensure it is getting the coolest air possible. I debated on metal vs plastic and ended up buying a sheet of HDPE to try my hand at some plastic welding. In the photo you can see the welder I purchased. Also in the photo on the left hand side is a bag of HDPE welding rods.

T20 Laterals in Argo Avenger

Description: Mocking up the transmission yet again after adding the bracket for the *gasp* T20 return springs. After getting everything put together I am amazed that it all fits and works as it should. There are some close tolerances there between the nut on the popsicle stick and the T20 frame. There are also some tight tolerances between the bracket for the T20 springs and the control rods themselves.

Description: Here is the motor mount. After looking at the mount today I decided to extend it several inches to the left to mount the duct work that will be feeding the engine with fresh air. This top plate is just tacked in place so I will rework the plate and hopefully finish weld it soon.

Argo Handlebars / Laterals

Description: This is the lateral/handlebar setup that I ended up with. The two outer plates will be machined further to have a 1" hole. That will allow the two outer tubes to slide in the plates where they will be welded. A solid rod will go between those and that is what the laterals will rotate on. After playing with the handlebar location in the Argo, I ended up with a 10 degree kick in on the bars. Also in the photos, you will see part of the control rods that will go to the T20.

Description: Machining out the holes for the extended T20 popsicle stick levers. I previously had the one sitting on the vise cut out of regular steel on a laser for mock up. Since it worked fine, I'm now machining the final version out of A2 tool steel and will have it hardened.

Description: I finally got half of the T20 back together. It was enough to let me mount the driven clutch so that I could start locating the position of the motor. This allowed me to machine out the motor mounting plate with the appropriate slots to allow for side-to-side adjustment.

Dual Throttle

Description: I think I am going to try this throttle on the Avenger. It has a twist throttle and a thumb throttle. If your thumb gets tired you can use the twist throttle or if your wrist gets tired you can use the thumb throttle. The twist throttle is lockable so that when you are using the thumb throttle, it stays in place and won't rotate. I haven't even opened it up yet to see if I can make a throttle cable work with it but I thought I would give it a shot.

Description: After pressing in the dowel pin, I machined a spacer to make up the difference between the boss on the T20 and the popsicle stick lever. I also had to machine roughly 1/32" from the faces on the eyebolts screwed into the plungers. That allowed me to get the lever to sit straight. The bolts are just for mockup and will be replaced with clevis pins.
