The more experienced T20 guys have probably been doing something like this for a long time, but I just figured it out- sometimes it takes me a little longer! When putting the halves of the trans together, it's tough to keep the shaft side intact while lowering it into the right half of the housing, so I came up with a tool for the job. This is a blower drive from a Detroit Diesel, but a piece of pipe the right diameter and length would work as well. Once you get your drive half together with the gaskets or sealant on the case and the center plate, shaft, gear and clip installed, put this tool on and tighten it up enough to hold everything together so it can be lowered into the other half without worry of loosing the alignment of the bolt holes or the band anchor pin.
