Dolly-wheel for Avenger

I have done almost the exact same thing, but I only used one wheel.

My system uses a short piece of square tubing coming out of the hitch, I think a 10", (250mm) length of tubing coming down, then I welded a steel castor wheel to that. Similar to what you would see under industrial cart or dolly. The wheel is all steel, with a small bit of nylon on the outside. I prefer this to a rubber wheel or tire, because it is so much easier to push around.

I've used it for about two years, seems quite durable. I come down the drive way, over to curb, into the street, turn, drive into my trailer. Stop 3/4 of the way in, get out and pull the wheel out of the hitch and park. It even stands up to going up the curb. Not a square curb, but one of the curved ones that you would see at the end of a drive way.

I'm happy with it.

How about just buying 4 of these; Vehicle Dollies - 2 Piece, 1000 Lb. Capacity
They are meant for pushing cars around your garage.....1200# argo should push with one finger.
I have bought them on sale before for $29.99/pr, but are hard to find for that price $39.99 is more common. Lots of places carry them, just check around.

not a bad idea, although I am battling to find those dollies here in South Africa, and shipping form the Us will kill me (seems to be more than $200 shipping). Would have worked great thoguh.

The other reason why I thought of this wheel is to move it under power, so inother words still be able to drive it around the paved drivay to line it up with my trailer etc, with the power therefore just coming form the front wheels. Rest of the wheels will then be stil spinning freely in the air, tereby saving some effort and unnecessary tire wear. One can then even go further and to make it raise and lower electrically, which will then mean that should you ever need to cross or turn on a paved road while you are out riding, you can just lower it, turn, and then raise it again. But I'll start off with a manual system just hooking into the hitch and raising the rear with some lever on the dolly wheel, which can then also be used to push /pull the argo with...

Hi guys,

I am busy with an idea on saving some tyres on my avenger and to make maneuvering a bit easier around my garage and paved driveway at home. I need to move it around a bit into and out of the garage to create more space and the paved driveway seems to chow the tyres. So thought of manufacturing a dolly-wheel / caster wheel using two 10" pneumatic wheels (side by side) which rotate 360 degrees like a caster wheel, and using the Avenger's trailer hitch to mount the wheel when I need it. This wheel will then lift all the wheels about an inch or two form the ground and only run on the front wheels and caster /dolly wheel. I will then be able to actually drive it with the caster wheel. or push it in neutral where I need it, without having it byte into the paved driveway.

Herewith a small schematic on what I'm planning....Do you guys think it will work?
