I have been buying my kart parts from BMIKARTS out of Ohio for a long time.
Both Glenn and Steve have helped point me in the right direction many times.
I can't count the number of axles, bearings, cables, throttles, mounts, hyd. brakes, misc. parts, .... that I have bought from them.
Do you have another source of parts you like?
A 4cycle is in my future, not sure what at this point. I'll just keep reading here to get more engine info. Then make a decision.

You can get a lot of the parts you'll need from people on this site. I'd start here first. Just post in the "Wanted" section. I bought a 4-stroke clutch from a member of this site; I bought tires from Recreatives because a few of their engineers are on this site. I got a nice 600 Racing engine as a result of a contact supplied to me from Mike (the administrator). My springer kit and my 1.25" axle upgrade came from Whipper and Bridget (two highly regarded members).

I've used this site to buy bearings, chains and stock for making axles;

I've also bought stuff from Richard Clark. His prices are a little high but his service and knowledge have always been great as far as I'm concerned.

Ebay is another good source and many members also scour Craigslist to find machines and parts we can all use.

With my Li'l Truck I just drilled 4 new holes for the 16 hp Briggs I had. As far as a Super Chief goes, it would be the same motor mount but you might have to modify the engine cover to make it fit. The Briggs engines sit higher than a G50B. There is a chance that you might need to change the belt size (length) too.

Ooops, I forgot....You'll need a 4-stroke clutch on the engine and a 4-stroke spring to replace the 2-stroke spring in the clutch on the T-20. I got mine from Dan at Recreatives.

i have a superchief(poly)that i put avanguard in all i had to do was make a plate to adapt to bolt pattern--1/4in. thick lol

Can someone give me a quick run down on the differences between the 400, the 450 and the 500.
Is one better then the rest?
Looking for something to run the trails with you guys and mod a bit.
Looking at a clean 1978? 500? Superchief re-built inside and original JLO I believe - for $1500$, what should I look for?

Well if it's a 1978 then it has a poly body (that's a good thing). If it's the Super Chief, it should have a Chaparral G50B which will make it very fast. You might want to consider 4-stroke conversion for trail riding.

Check for holes and cracks in the body. I would not get hung up on the condition of the bearings and chains. They'll need replacement eventually. Check the sprockets for wear. Look at the front of the frame (under floor pan) for cracks. Bent axles are not the end of the world. They can be fixed or replaced without too much expense.

The T-20 tranny is probably the deal breaker. If it's bad then it'll be expensive to fix/replace. If it's filled with gear oil, it's toast. It should be filled with ATF. There are two plugs in a T-20 that you can use to check. I'd look at the T-20 write-up on this site if you're not familiar with them.
