All ice is not equal. clear blue ice is stonger than white flood ice. Rivers, creeks,lakes that have currents can have extreme changes in ice thickness. These conditions are major concern early in the season when the difference of a couple of inches of ice can mean staying on top. To check ice mark 1 inch increments on the bar of your chainsaw. plunge the running saw straight down into the ice watching the marks when the saw starts pulling up water check the marks on the bar to varify ice depth.

Sounds like you want at least 4 inches of ice depending on how loaded your max is...right?

we are taught that little thingy when we are 6 or 7 yrs old up here in canada concidering we live with ice and snow about half our entire lives LOL, Good rules to know off by heart ,in fact would be a good rule for ALL children to know, helps keep our little ones alive

i sure wouldn't want to take a 6x6 argo.(front end heavy) on thin ice too fast. 9been there, done that)

Just keep in mind that if you fall through, you may have a hard time getting out.

I think there was a video on the site a year or two ago of a guy that went through with a Max IV and needed to pulled back on the ice by a farm tractor.
