  • Axle work

This might be handy to someone who has hollow axles and drive line slop. I have a Max II - 98 vintage. I was having some chain issues and what not. The what not included a drive gear that got really chewed up. Well I decide to get a new gear and all new bearings for the right side of the machine. I spent what seemed to be a fortune on all of this stuff but at least I had everything I needed. Well I take apart the axles to find that someone had drilled the axles and gears out to accept larger bolts - bigger than the stock 3/8 bolts. So I took the axles and reamed them out and sleaved in (translation: hammered in) some round hollow stock steel which was the perfect size for 3/8 bolts. I cleaned the axles with a grinder and all was fine. With the new gear I put the axle back together. The other old gears I wanted to reuse. I bought those weld on bushings and welded them on to the gears. I bought new bolts and I was done. This work addressed the drive line slop I had in the system. There you have it. This work may not be appropriate protocal but it seems to have worke.
