Hi Guys
my friend has a dirt tamper with a 5hp B&S industrial engine.
this engine is on a old dirt tamper, the one with a heavy vibrating steal plate. the engine is aprox 10 yrs old.
under load the engine will not seem to rev up past 1/2 throttle and going back to idle it tales a few seconds but runs smooth.
if I remove the belt to the tamper plate to insure no load the engine idles, revs full, runs smooth, idles back down normal. it runs as you would expect an engine to.
things I have done.
1. removed muffler to insure no obstruction, no change
2. completely tore down carb (gravity type, no diaphragm) and cleaned, no change
3. inspect valve gap. .009 exhaust, .004-5 intake,
4. inspect head gasket(did not remove sprayed WD-40 on it while running and no increase in RPM, I figure no leaks.
5. check for good spark, it was yellow and not blue.
next I m going to check bleed down and compression, and th flywheel key to see if it sheered nd timing is off. if this stuff check good what else could I do? and what is good compression??
1 last note, all the rubber bushings separating the plate from the engine are shot and the engine vibrates a lot. could this be screwing with the carb float and chocking off the fuel??
any help from you guys would be awesome.
Thanks
Larry
