A fellow just recently was quoted around 1,750 for a 18hp....stock. The bandolero was 1,500.oo ready to go. The last time i checked with them 3 months ago. The are 35 minutes from my house. 5 minutes from where the wife works.

30 HP is as high as they go. But as Mike said they are closer to 28-29 HP they just call them 30hp.

Al Hodge is the one that built Whipper's and Bridget's engines he will build the same engine up to 50hp, but like i said earlier the price goes up. He is performance V- Twins. He only lives 30 minutes from my house. Going to see him next week for a engine, i must too make a decision on what to put in the springer. Here is his home page. Hope this link works, and then again sometimes you get to many choices.

Generac is a work horse. It also has a tapered shaft and i am not sure if we can get a clutch to fit it. It is used in the tractor pulls with great results. It was the one that designed the twin cylinder engine and sold B&S the design. Yes it is American made, the ONLY one.

Now which is better: If you are going to race and want to build it, the Generac will tow the line the best. The heads have 6 bolts, block is beefed up and when built right 10,000 rpm can be achieved,...but only for a short time. But it is costly. Mid westcub pullers run them, along with the Kohler. One of the items that have kept them out of our machines is no-one has every heard of them much. They would do great for our application.

B&S is a good engine, and the bandolero is a great engine also with a lot of spare parts and people that know how to build them to really perform. I have driven several of the machines with engine in them and they FLY!

Which is better: Neither and both. It's what your wallet can stand and your resources of people that know how to make them run well.

Stock they are the both great engines and both great high performance. The taper crank shaft can be changed out to a straight shaft.

This is a question like which is better: Argo's or a Max, they all have highs and lows. This will always be a matter of taste and opinion. Sorry but this is my opininon.

Here is the dyno sheet on the bandolero motor that I have in my Max II. I didn't dyno Jennifer's motor before it went in the car but I would assume it is very similar. I haven't seen any official dyno sheets or HP numbers from 600 racing but it's fairly close to 30 HP when all is said and done.

The HP peaks at 28.40 at 4,985 RPM.
The Torque peaks at about 34 ft lbs at around 3,600 RPM.

The torque is fairly flat up through the ~4,500 RPM range but the real reason everyone (including me) keeps bringing these motors up is the cost. I can't remember the exact cost but a new motor is in the $1,500 range. You will be hard pressed to even buy a new Briggs 18HP for that.

They aren't the most powerful motors you can find but they do provide a great bang for the buck and can push a stock max further into the fun category.

    what does a bandolero cost

HOW MUCH FOR A BANDOLERO$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at what horsepower vs torque i beleive you need torque more than horespower for 6 wheeler. I would love to see the torque curve for some of these engines. generac is now building custom engines just keep restoring and keep them rolling later jeff

i think the point jerseybigfoot is trying to make is that neither engine is "better" there are too many variables for someone else to chose what's best for you. the bandelero is going to haul the mail, but is going to be a little louder. that might be great for me, but a guy using his max for hunting doesn't want the louder engine, and doesn't need to drag a deer at 30+ mph. you have to decide which might work best for the type of riding YOU want to do

Depends if you want a 6000 rpm engine or a 3600rpm engine. The Bandolero is a race engine not a tractor/industrial engine. 6x6's are just more fun at 6000 rpm. If you want longer engine life, less maintenance you go with slower speeds.

    more generac info

Good morning: This engine would be rated at about 20hp & 56lb ft of torque at 1800 rpm. 1800 rpm is only slightly above the normal idle speed for this engine (1400rpm) Running it under a heavy load at 1800 rpm would not be recommended. Maximum torque is about 68lb ft at 2400 rpm (based on the SAE J1940 test method) Maximum hp is about 44 at 3600rpm (based on the SAE J1940 test method) It would be best to use belts & pulleys to run the engine at 3600rpm & your equipment at 1800rpm Let us know if you want to consider this option THIS A QUESTION A GENTLEMAN HAD BUT TELLS YOU A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE ENGINE TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER AT DIFFERENT RPM LEVELS /TORQUE MONSTER WHO WILL HAVE THE NEXT GENERAC MONSTER or i will need a mirror so i can see you all behind me just kidding
