Thanks!!! Guess I will look for an aluminum one and see if I can find an aluminum welding guy. My lincoln stick welder dont weld aluminum. Thanks for the Ideas.

Larry, just look for an aluminum pulley. OR, is there any shaft left behind the clutch, maybe with a little key-way. Even if it's tapering off you could cut a key to just fit and key a pulley on. Check for snowblower pulleys for a keyed engine-shaft pulley, just a thought.

Most models would probably have more room on top. I mounted mine low which I think is why it failed. I got it dunked multible times. I have since switched to a salsbury clutch with a bigger diameter for more top end as the comet 40 was only like 4-5" and the salsbury is 7.25" I think. Something like that. anyways I gained like 7-8mph and lost my lights, lol. Salsbury being aluminum, I need to figure something else out some day for my pulley. I pull rope it and drive it in day light for now and no big deal but summer time I will miss my late night rides. Just though I would mention to mount it high if possible.

I would go to a different store with some more knowledgeable / helpful employees (seriously). If you search the site I believe others are using a one wire Delco brand alternator.

Ok I have a question. I went to the auto parts store and I couldn't seem to talk the lazy guy into looking through the alternators for the smallest one with a built in regulator. So my question is those of you that have put alternators on your machines what kind of car were they really for so I can tell the lazy guy at the store what I need. thanks.
