chain on tire

Hi, since I'm not sure if I'll get some track for my agenger I wonder if I could put chains on the tires. I would put the 2 front and 2 rear tires. Is that a good alternative to go on a lake with snow and slush. Would that be hard on my bearings, shaft, chains and so on.
Did anybody ever try to put spikes( nails) like we see on some car tires
