The new Argo 24" Frontier tire

    they seem a little pricey at $125 each!!...will 24" fit a hustler.i have 22" now and it seems like theres at least an inch or more all the way around.i heard someone fit 25's on a hustler but havnt seen a pic,if thats true anyone have a pic????

    Brandon Price has an exellent video showing how well the Fronteer tires swim through the water , in a Max II . According to him , The Fronteer tires are not 24 inches tall, but 23 " and ?? . The Fronteer tires will fit a max II with out any alteration of the lower tube . The only negativee is the price for six tires .

    Hi,
    I just bought my Frontier and took it to the Las Vegas - Apex Dunes. After less than 2 hours I had punctured the front left tire through the sidewall. But, I was suprised to see that it drove almost fine FLAT! I have since had a tube put in, and will use it as a spare, as a new one will be arriving tomorrow (Ironically... it's the spare I ordered when I purchased the Frontier). But, the puncture aside, we loved the ride! It glided over the dunes with ease. I looked back at the tire tracks I left on the fresh sand... no slippage at all... just dig!

    The price... well.. a bit much. I'm looking into tracks from Richard's Relics. They look like they will protect the sidewalls of the tires. My question... will the plastic tracks get as damaged as I think they will with the Nevada desert rocks?

    Thats correct! Every time some one has a hard time climbing up a muddy bank, or for that matter, any of the really technical trail sections , Jon Hoth always makes it look easy. He has had lots of hours at the sticks of various amphibs, and all this experience really shows, when he rides his new frontier at any amphibious event

    It's good to hear more positive experience with these tires, Greg. I hope that the messages in this post weren't misconstrued by suggesting that the Argo 24's were a junk tire by any means. I think I would take the Argos over a Rawhide III on at least one of my machines as well IF the price was even comparable.

    I guess this is a personal preference, but I am glad to sacrifice some of the benefits that the Argo tires offers in order to run less expensive Rawhide IIIs at less than half the price that still provide (in my opinion) great performance in all of the conditions I've throw at it so far. Heck, I'm cheap though. I'm still running a set of Cheng-Shin Lumberjacks on my 4-stroke project. They've been on 3 different machines, and swim like a slab of granite.

    I feel badly that I forgot the driver's name, but there was a guy at Ledges ride with a new Frontier that kept going back and forth across the creek and up the slick clay bank with the 24's on it while most of us were getting towed up it. He made it look effortless. I'm sure if I was driving that same machine, I would have looked ridiculous, and wouldn't have made it. His experience with the open differential and the new tires was proven. Like RogerS has said, it has a lot to do with the driver and his experience with the machine.

    Thanks for the real life report Greg. I believe you bought the tires from me so I'm glad they are working well. I was sure happy with the performance on the Max II. Your '78 Max has axles that are 1" longer than the new machines and I believe that is what causes water to be thrown into the vents. Funny how such a small thing can cause a difference like that. Like you said, mud flaps will fix that. I've put some swimming time on the Argo Frontier and it is actually possible to make it throw water into the vehicle if you're trying. One time I was running the Frontier wide open and rocking it hard side to side. That motion allows some splash to get on the back seats. The tires have such awesome paddle action that they are throwing more water than any other tire put on an Argo. The 26" Max IV tire can do it also, it's a great swimmer for vehicles with that much fender clearance but it's a terrible ride. I have seen all types of tires get sidewall damage. It is all in the driver. I never once damaged a sidewall in hundreds of hours of hard riding on a Max II with Rawhide IIIs. Then I would see that exact model at a ride and the tires look like they went through a blender. Roger is right - dozons of plugs sticking out of the sidewalls is a common sight with the way some drivers operator their AATV.
    Pricing aside - The 24" Argo tire is the total package. Awesome water speed, the smoothest ride you'll get from a 6x6, and great traction. On top of that, when they are used on the Frontier the tires allow you THREE track options. The standard 13" plastic track for a low cost option, the 18" plastic track for a good price with less ground pressure, and the 18" rubber track for the ultimate in traction. That's a great range of options for those buying the Frontier 6x6 or the new 2008 Frontier 8x8.

    I have a Frontier and so far the tires have been great but I only have 10hours on them. Two things that concerns me about the tires are:

    1- The narrow width of the thread (the lug themself, not the tire), they seem like they will wear out quickly. Where I ride you have to drive on forest service roads in between trail and I'm afraid that those hard packed roads will wear ou the tires.

    2- The odd size. When they do wear out, I'm pretty much stuck with those tires unless I want to go down to 22" or buy new rims.

    So far I'm happy and these tires are so new that time will tell. I wouldn't mind them being 1 or 2" wider either!

I used to cut a lot of yards too and would turn on pavement and concrete quite often but even so, they didn't seem to last long at all. Of course they might last forever on a 6x6, who knows.

    Right before I tore my Max apart I threw them on to see if there was much difference size wise compared to my bald Goodyears.


    I was thinking they were the same thing as the original rawhide.. odd sizes most of us don't need.. 21x8 and 24x12

    ok I have a fronteer nad wish I had pictures of this area i was climbing and got my first flat. so I called my dealer and talked to there mech, I asked how much was a new tire and all he would say is there exensive, he seid he had hurd of people putting in tubes, but he sead thats not recomended, just slim the tires. so I have been looking for new tires just in case, but they all have diferent sized rims and i would have to replace them too. how much are rims so i can go bigger.

    Tucker Tire sells them for about $50 each. I would recomend them.

    Hi Guys, I usually don't have much to say ,but for the price and styles avalible seem like this might not be a bad site to check out.They were the lowest I could find on several styles 26x12.00x12 4 ply AG LUGtires. I'm looking to replace the old ones on my MAX IV. (Affordable Duro Tire Sales) duroatvtires.com If there's anyone that has had any issues pos or neg with the Duros I would be quite greatful for any feedback.
