Oh.... you have a very old T20. The "T" type weren't used very long, and yes, the T pins were loose enough to rotate. The later models used a straight pin that is pressed into the shift barrel. You could still use the old barrels to drill and press a hardened pin into. Sorry if I was confusing the first time.

So is the actually shift link "T" supposed to be pressed in the bottom of the barrels? Mine where in the T-20 when I took the barrels out, I just had to reach in and get them but they where certainly not connected to each other. I'm assuming they need to rotate freely in the barrel to shift correctly? I'll call recreative and see what they have on hand.

You can try drilling the shift barrels at 180 degrees from the original holes and pressing in new hardened pins. I haven't done this myself but I've used shifters that have been done and I know they work.

    Somehow, that looks familiar

I like that Idea a lot better than welding and re-drilling the original holes

And people say My "ESP" is BS

Hi: If it's popping out all the time, check the shifters. Pull the diamond shifter out (You have to remove the plate above it, or the snapring in the opening the shifter goes into if you have the older style, and then the shifter will pull up (some force required) The pin may be damaged or worn. Mine was broken, popping out of gear was my last warning before it went out all together. I would check it before possible damage. OH, Make sure both diamonds are going all the way forwards evenly. If one doesn't quite go forward as far, it can pop out, and maybe pull the other out of gear as it does. Since it's in forward only, I suspect the shift pin, if it's worn, the worn surface won't be affecting the shift into reverse, only forward.

I believe your problem could be the round detent spring that goes inside your shift slider that rides on the main shaft of the T-20. It is a very inexpensive part that is available from the manufacturer Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511, but you do have to take your T-20 apart to fix it. Hope this helps.

That happens on my trail machine on occasion. Not sure why or how to fix it.

started a topic T-20 popping out of forward gear

T-20 popping out of forward gear

The title says it all. I can drive in reverse great but when I shift to forward the transmission wants to pop out all the time. Any suggestions of things to look for? It is a max II with T-20.
Working...
