    Dazed and confused

can anyone help me? I 16 hp Briggs & stratton engine that will only run on full choke. first, I checked the fuel the pump seems to be working and the carb has gas in the float bowl. next I pulled off on of the heads but the head gasket seemed ok. I still have to pull the other one any help would be appreciated.

sounds like it may be an air leak somewhere after the airfilter
you can find out by spraying wd40 around the carb and motor listening for changes in the sound all while making sure none of it goes in through the airfilter

Try cleaning the carb/ports. You probably have some sediment in there somewhere. A bristle from a wire brush works well for cleaning each hole and then spray some carb cleaner through each one. Be sure not to miss the main one in the bottom of the bowl. That is often the culprit but you have to pull half the motor apart to remove it.

    Good luck!

assuming the carb is clogged, assuming its not too bad, you could just run sea foam through it

While you have the carb apart, check your float height. And check the float needle. Some of them had rubber tips that would deteriorate and clog the inlet.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

Definitely clean the carb. I had a similar problem. It was the carb jets.

Been there done that. I tried and tried to clean, rebuild my carb, broke down and bought a new carb and my motor runs sweet now. Suprising what a small spec of something can do.
