Ideally, I believe 1/8" deflection?? Maybe somebody can chime in on the exact amount.....Good luck on getting them to stay tight, I was CONSTANTLY having to adjust my chains...even after a 45 minute ride.

Way too tight??? How did you do that?? Be careful because that could be really hard on bearings and sprockets....

Like I said, I think 1/8" of deflection is right....and if you are just tight enough so that your chains don't rub on the frame or slap the tub, you should be good.....

For a Max it is 1/2 to 3/4 of total travel in deflection. So I run the Hustler with them the same way and don't have any problem. It is measured in the center of the chain on the opposite side of the tensioner after thw wheels have been turned to find the tightest section then make the adjustment. The tensioners on the Hustler seem like an after thought by the company.

Amen Brother Jerry! I think the Hustler design guys sat down and designed a pretty sturdy ATV with good balance and other nice features that make the Hustler a good choice for the DIY crowd. But after they ran out of beer someone remembered that they forgot chain adjusters!

You will also get less life out of your chain by stretching it prematurely
