Argo Avenger new clutch / driven

    Hello Guys,

Merry x-mas and happy new year. I just installed the new style clutch and driven on my Argo. According to the instructions the 5 shims on the engine shaft are to be replaced by one larger shim which was supplied with the new clutch (driver). After the installation I noticed that there was about 1/8" gap between the new shim and clutch. So I took it apart and reinstalled it again and same thing. I am not sure if this is normal or I should use additional shims. As always any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not going to be much help but let me ask a few questions to get the thread moving. What motor do you have? What instructions were you following, were those from Argo of from the clutch? When you put the new clutch on, did the bolt pull the clutch all the way on the shaft? Do you have any pictures?

    Hello Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Would you mind telling me how to post pictures again please? I have a 2005 Avenger with 26 hp. kohler engine. The argo parts numbers are: driver clutch 610-126, driven clutch 127-156, new driven bolt 112-164, new driven key 110-03, and new engine shaft spacer 108-84. The instructions came with new clutch kit directly from argo. The problem is when I am installing the driver onto the engine shaft there is about 1/8" gap between the new spacer and back of the clutch after the bolt is installed and torqued down. Without the key the clutch slides all the way down to the spacer with no problems. The key is exact argo part, 1/4" x 1/4" x 2.25". As usual, the local dealers have no clue as to what I am talking about. I did manage to shoot an email through a friend to ODG and they were kind of surprised as well. ODG did mention that they have this problem during assembly as well but no clear solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ice fishing season is getting very close you know!!! Thanks for your time.

Try to shorten the key an 1/8 inch or so, perhaps the key is slightly long allowing the washer to push the key into/against the taper cut in the keyway and locking things tight.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

    Hello argojim,

I will do that as soon as I get a chance. I uploaded the photos but I don't know where they went. Thanks.

I think Jim has the solution you were looking for. For the photos, they are in your gallery. The link that hydromike posted tells you how to place them in your post if you need to. Here they are:

Just wanted to let you know that by removing 1/8" from the key worked very well. The clutch is right against the spacer with no play at all. Thank you very much guys.
