As I get my Scrambler closer and closer to being 100% functional my latest challenge to tackle is the ever present “clicking / popping” of the chain on the left side of the vehicle when I encounter terrain resistance or immediately when I turn to the right AKA put the left side under heavy load. I tracked down the sound to the chain going to the back left tire. Upon inspection I found not 1 but 3 broken links. It amazes me that a chain can lose the sides of so many links and not break all together. Under the assumption the old chain was popping when the broken links went over the sprocket I replaced the chain. While the chain was off I ran the machine with 5 wheel drive. As I suspected the “clicking / popping was gone”. However with the new chain the problem is back exactly the same. I am assuming the old chain was broken from this popping. I now assume it must be the bearings. As there is no other culprit I could think of. I have the axle uninstalled, but would rather not have to remove the entire engine and break assembly to remove it from the tub. Is there any secrets to getting these bearings off? How do I even go about removing these inside bearings? Also if there is any Scrambler owners that have replaced these bearings if they have any advice or know the exact replacement numbers for say Buffalo bearings?
