2 extra horses for my briggs

I was reading that the only difference between a 16 hp and a 18 hp is the restrictors in the exhaust valves.Supposedly you take them out of a 16hp it turns into a 18 hp. I tried this and it seems to have lost power. Am I supposed to adjust the carb someway. Not sure what to do any help will be greatly appreciated.

Typically anytime you increase exhaust flow you also have to increase air and fuel flow. In this case its probably fuel. With the stock jet you are only allow enough fuel for a 16hp and not an 18hp.

The 14 and 16 hp are the same block/ heads... but use a different carb and the exhaust restrictors.

the 18 and 20 are the same block and heads. 18 uses a single barrel carb. the 20 uses 2 barrel.

here is an old thread with a lot of good info http://www.6x6world.com/forums/engin...ification.html

You can either order some jets. I have some very small sets of drill bits. I keep drilling out the jets until i get the mixture right by checking the plugs.
